We had the bags and car packed up by Thursday morning. Joe dropped Kenzie off at daycare and myself off at work...as soon as quitin'time (5pm) rolled around, he and the girls were waiting for me in SKAR's parking lot. We were ON THE ROAD!! Next stop - Estes Park, CO. With a few pitstops of course, as it's an 8-hour trip. Macy got hungry by the time we got near Kearney. I nursed her in the Wendy's parking lot, worked out well. We were back on the road...Macy was blowin' raspberries, McKenzie was playin' & talkin' about adventures with her imaginary friends. At that moment, I thought it appropriate to update my facebook status with "who needs XM? This is music to my ears!! :)". My friend Annie told me the next morning that Pat & JT (radio DJ's on Omaha's Q98.5) made comments about this status on air...too funny! They were like "they'll be BEGGIN for XM in about an hour or so, etc". But NOPE, that was thankfully not the case. So far my girlies are proving to be great travelers. This is our 4th trip to Estes with Kenzie in tow and we have never (knock on wood) had any problems. They were sound asleep by 8:30 or so. I was able to read a few books on the iPad, have a nice conversation with Joe, but was most importantly able to enjoy the silence. I have had a lot on my mind lately, have been doing a lot of much needed soul-searching (but that's another post). We got to Gayle's mountain retreat at 1am (2am CST). We accidentally awoke Kenzie, she was SOOO excited to finally be up in the mountains, we've been talking about it all week. She was up for another hour, ooops! My first favorite thing to do once we get there is flip through and read all the journal entries written by previous guests of Gayle's mountain home. Love reading about all there Estes/Rocky Mountain adventures, eating experiences and wildlife sightings, etc!! Gayle's going to have to invest in a new one soon as this journal's just about all filled up! Joe's wonderful sister Gayle lives down in Littleton, it has been a long time dream of hers to own a cabin up in the mountains. And it brings much joy to share it with family and friends. There have been SOOO many people who have stayed here over the years. She is amazing!!!! Thanks again Gayle, you ROCK :)
Here are some pics from last years trip to Estes...
Hanging out (literally) on Gayle's porch (btw - pretty sure this will be a duplicated "pose" this year!
Posing by the infamous Estes (once again, I'm sure you'll see a duplicate this year!)
Sliding at the park in downtown Estes
Playing putt-put golf in Estes.
Yep, we all did the slide! Even me, 4 months pregnant :). Oh and Joe like broke his tailbone. Haha.
Hiking around Bear Lake.
All the kids love wrestling with this adorable bear rug...can't wait for Macy to meet him. :)
Takin a cruise around lake estes.
We took the tram up to the top of the mountain...
McKenzie LOVED feeding peanuts to the squirrels & chipmunks up there!
Well that's all for now...probably won't post again until the road trip home. Too many memories being made and relaxation being had. You understand. Plus, AT&T signal struggles up here in the mountains...shocker!

Estes Park is one of my favorite places to go! Miss how close it was when I lived in Denver!
